The Sonne Hotel is housed in a modest but attractive building, with twin peaked roofs and a pink and cream façade. It is situated on the old Roman road, Via Claudia, right in the centre of Füssen. Though it lacks the quasi-hunting lodge appearance of some of its competitors, it is consistently praised by guests. The medium sized, well-lit lobby is stylishly appointed, with a tiled floor, a curved reception desk and – most eye-catching of all – a circular ceiling fresco of blue sky partly occluded by white clouds. Though not especially large, the 32 guestrooms feature patterned carpets, wood or leather headboards and furniture upholstered in striped fabrics – all of which combine to create a bright but cosy atmosphere. The hotel’s restaurant serves local and international specialities 7 days a week, allowing diners to choose between theme buffets (possible for 15 guests or more) or à la carte menus. Alternatively, in the café-bar “Via,” Italian flair meets a warm atmosphere and design. Here guests can enjoy speciality coffees, cold local beers and exotic cocktails. It also serves delicious regional meals, various fresh salads and light Mediterranean and Asian food. In the summer months, it is possible to enjoy drinks and snacks in the hotel’s Sonnengarten (“sun garden.”)
